| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Modeled after American barber poles the heavy-duty brass core chrome plated handle weighs a hefty 4oz, and has a 3.75 in. long handle, which is slightly longer, then the traditional Merkur Safety Razor. As are all of Merkur's double edged razors, The Barber Pole Razor (38C) should prove to be a great shaver that has some heft to it. Made in Germany.

Your old cartridge razor stinks, buy this June 26, 2010 Michael S. Martin (Raleigh, NC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
OK, why would people ever have moved to cartridge razors when this kind of shaving goodness existed all along?? This is my first DE razor and I am loving it so far. Beyond the satisfaction of shaving with a sturdy piece of metal that feels like it will last for hundreds of years, the shave is far superior when compared to cartridge razors. I get a much closer shave, my razor bumps had disappeared, and in the long run shaving will be MUCH cheaper. I don't have anything bad to say about this razor. Totally worth the higher price up front and I will never again go back to shaving with overpriced plastic toys.
Perfect double edge for the new or old users June 16, 2010 Ty (Oregon, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I spent a lot of time on forums before I took the plunge into the double edge shaving world. This razor is highly recommended by many longtime double edge users. I've been using Derby blades and Proraso soap with it and I get great shaves, especially if I do a third pass against the grain. This model has a heavier handle so you aren't tempted to press down (if you do most of your skin will go down the drain, with your stubble - which is true of any double edge). Really, this investment is worth it, it costs me about 40 cents a week to shave now, soap and blades, compare that to buying fancy Gillette blades. Spend some time on Badger and Blade forums and get a semi nice brush to go with it and shaving won't seem like such a chore anymore with this razor.
Can't wait to shave May 16, 2010 H. Kinney (New Orleans, Louisiana United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sounds crazy but I really look forward to shaving and doing so for about one twentieth of what it was costing with Gillette. I use the Feather blades but have successfully used the Merkur blade and the Extra. Use highend shaving paste and get the best shaves of my life. Use very little pressure, let the blade do the work. Highly recommend.
Don't beleive the hype May 10, 2010 Philip R. Accorso (NY) 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
Not happy. After 2 uses, I don't see how on earth this DE razor is better than a mach 3 or a fushion. Takes TRIPLE the amount of time to shave, and even when you go against the grain it STILL DOESNT GET ALL MY HAIRS. maybe the merkur blade that comes with it is duller than other blades? doubt it.. I dont think im using it wrong either because ive watched several videos on how to "wet shave".. It will cut up your face in no time.. I had an open mind going in to this "DE Expierience" but I digress... not for sensitive skin! imo, theres a reason DE razors are a thing of the past.. dont believe the hype
Best Shave I ever had April 5, 2010 William S. Gufford (Thomasville GA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After searching reviews for a couple of months on razors I went with this one. I love it. I got tired of paying the 4700% profit to Gillette and Shick for multiple blade razors that are nothing more than gimmics and don't do the job nearly as well as a good safety razor. I purchased Shark and Derby blades as well. It seems as if the Derby blades are the best so far, lasting me a good 5-7 days. I have a very thick beard and a terrible five o-clock shadow. But now I don't have that and my wife will attest to a super smooth face. I use Poraso shave cream/soap with a good badger brush having tried the Col. Conks shave soap and a few others so far. The Poraso seems to give me the most comfortable and close shave. I wish they had it in a Bay fragrance. I hear the Taylor of Old Bond Sandalwood is good soap too. I usually finish with a splash of Old Spice and put a little post shave cream on my face after that. I just prefer the Old Spice and Clubman's to all the new expensive stuff. Shaving is now fun and I feel and smell like I just had a refreshing professional barber shave when I walk out.
I have since purchased 2 Mekur long handled safety razors for travel bags but I still prefer the Mekur HD Barber Pole razor. It's heavy, well balanced, has a good grip, made to last a lifetime and delivers a wonderful shave with a good blade. Little nicks may come for the first week or two if you are not used to this but it's just a learning curve. I rarely cut myself now. Try this razor if you want to tell Gillette and Shick to shove their obscene profits where the lights don't shine and get back into affordable comfortable shaving that will be sort of fun.
