Ok for beginner shavers... July 28, 2010 Mario, Peoria, AZ This was my first set of razor blades. I have sensitive skin and they caused me irritation if I went against the grain or they would pull the hairs leaving little blood dots. The blades also have to be switched every few (2-5) shaves. I switched to sharper Feather blades and problems went away, they also last longer (5-10) shaves.
There are better July 14, 2010 rescue5150 I have been using a Merkur safety razor for about a year now. I have tried several different blades and I must say that these are horrible. Compared to Feather or Derby blades (my favorites) these seem too stiff and not nearly sharp enough. I have a sharp jawline and I must say these blades do not conform to it at all. Several strokes in different directions and techniques trying to get the blade to cut, only left my face sore and far from smooth. With the Feather and/or Derby blades I can easily cut through over a weeks growth with no irritation and at worst 1-2 nicks if I'm in a hurry. Spend the extra dollar and pick up some feather blades, or spend the same and grab a pack of quality Derby blades.
Wear out fast June 14, 2010 Keil Steven Greg I bought these to go with my Merkur razor, which is my attempt to switch over from the oligarchy of the shaving barons. Whose over priced 4-blade systems are annoying me...
These Merkur blades seem great for the first TWO (2) shaves, but by the third shave it almost seems difficult to cut my beard, and it's useless after only THREE shaves.
I did a side-by-side comparison (shaving half my face with Merkur, and half with a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo (the battery kind), and the results were about the same. Except, I can usually go 6-7 shaves with the Gillette before changing blades (maybe I shouldn't go that long, but it seems fine, and they're so darn expensive). Here, I can honestly get TWO good shaves, and a third reasonable shave, and the blade has to be thrown out.
2 1/2 shaves per blade just doesn't seem that great, and I'll look for some better blades to keep trying this type of old-school shaving system before going back to the evil empire...
sharp and long lasting April 27, 2010 Lee H. Richardson (Charleston,, SC United States) Haven't tried any of the other double-edge blades. These work well are sharp and last a reasonable amount of time. And they don't tear up my face. No complaints
One of the best shaves I've ever had March 12, 2010 Brian P. Marley (Lindenhurst, NY USA) I was a bit apprehensive about using a DE razor at first but I have to say I was surprised by what a great shave I get with these razors. I have to admit, I haven't yet tried other brands such as Feather or Derby (I've recently ordered a sample pack.) but I am pleased so far with Merkur.
One of the downsides for me personally, and I can't really blame this on Merkur alone, is that I can't shave against the grain with a DE razor which means I have to shave more often. With that said, I think its done my skin good for the long run.
