 Wonderful Three-Ingredient, Non-Toxic Soap April 7, 2010

I have used Kiss My Face for a number of years now because it is a non-tallow soap, and I'm a vegetarian. It has a benign, pleasant smell about it, despite having no fragrance. this isn't true of all simple soaps, for example Dr. Bronner's liquid soaps, which we have also used a time or two smell like old dirty french fries. Yuck.
Since I've had kids who are woefully eczema-ridden, it's become even more important to find fragrance-free products which do not contain irritants. As one might expect, this soap is considered to be a 0 hazard by the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database.
So, my family of sentive-skinned folk hasn't had problems with allergies and irritation from this soap, but we have had problems with goo, mentioned by a number of other reviewers - especially when its in the kids' bathroom. When you allow this soap to sit in moisture it will create a sticky green slime that adheres itself to EVERYTHING. The kids tend to get the goo everywhere, and if you let the goo get out of control it will build up in the drains too. That's no fun. So, I do wish they would make the bars smaller, because the bigger the bar, the more the goo in my experience. However, with a little work, the goo can become less a problem. Adequate drainage is a must. We have managed to combat this problem with the kids by only doling out 1/4 bar at a time, and this is working amazingly well.
So, for a non-toxic soap this one is - in spite of the goo - remarkable, it is affordable, accessible (it's in all the local grocery stores and is one of the few products I don't have to order online), works well, doesn't reek, and with a little managing can, in fact, be kept goo-free. We love it.

I used this soap for the first time yesterday and it completely dried my skin out. As far as I can tell, it must have stripped my skin of all it's natural oils, and for the first time ever I had to drench my body in lotion. I was looking for a natural soap and thought this would be a good choice... I guess I should have read the reviews here on Amazon first. I'm glad the soap works for some people, but this definitely is not the soap for me!

I am generally a fan of the Kiss My Face line of products, but this soap caused a terrible allergic reaction all over after one use. I'm not sure what it is, but I will never use this soap again.

I was searching for a soap that not only is non-toxic, but also affordable. At 8oz, this soap is large and is a great value for the money. We use it in the shower for face and body and it lasts forever and lathers beautifully. The Environmental Working Group lists it as one of the lowest-toxicity soaps out there, and once I saw the price, I knew it was a must for my family. One reviewer suggested cutting the bar into smaller pieces. I can't believe I didn't think of that brilliant solution. It will probably make it last longer too. It's true that the soap has a very hippie olive smell to it, but it is pleasant enough and doesn't linger on your skin at all. It does get a bit gooey in the soap dish, but the goo just rinses off with water and doesn't leave any residue behind.
The packaging lists the ingredients as: Saponified Olive Oil, Water, Sodium Chloride.
It also states: This measureing bar contains no animal ingredients, no artificial colors and was not tested on animals. 100% biodegradable. Made in Greece.

I can't get enough of this soap. I will never go back to standard grocery brands.
I have chronic dry skin, and this soap helped me solve that problem over the past year I've been using it.
The bar is huge, which makes it a much better deal than the smaller bars they offer in my local stores. If this is a problem for you, I recommend cutting the bar into smaller pieces, very easy to do, and seems to make it last even longer keeping it out of water. I use a wonderful wire-bar soap dish that keeps this soap dry and eliminates the messiness that others have commented on.
I have had no problems with the scent or the texture of this soap - it never feels slimy to me because I take decent care of the bar(s), and the soap barely smells like anything but fresh leaves to me, certainly not like chemicals.
I find that this bar will not lather as "automatically" as standard grocery soaps, but if you spend a little time and try at it, you can work up a lovely lather.
I picked this soap originally for the lack of toxins, but it has become my favorite soap even independent of the mildness. It just feels good.
