Fine, Cost Conscious Choice July 20, 2010 Aidan Sonoda (Saint Louis, MO) Purchased the almond variety for use with a DE razor. As a newbie wet shaver I sprang for a far pricier Proraso cream the first time out - which was admittedly very nice. Now that I have at least a vague idea of what I'm doing I've been looking for a more cost effective solution. Col Conk's Almond performed nicely. This soap creates a very slick lather - not as thick or heavy as some others but very lubricative. I feel well protected using this soap - even as I start to experiment with more advanced razor techniques. All in all a fantastic buy. The almond version also smells great: having an understated, not overly sweet aroma. Far richer and soapier than jerkins almond-cherry, though somewhat similar in character. I would describe it as a rich smell, but I use that to describe the way it smells and not the strength of its aroma. It is a rich scent: nutty, soapy, and sweet; but it shows up with very little intensity saving it from the unpleasant cloying effect that torpedoes many similar scentings.
Have also tried the lime, which has a great 'clean' smell but didn't lather as willingly as the almond -- this may have something to do with my brush, technique, or local water quality. Have heard good things from friends about the bay rum and amber - will be trying those next.
Shaving Soap review July 15, 2010 W. G. Clack (Pryor, OK USA) I prefer hot shaving soap applied with a brush to any other method of shaving. This product fits my shaving mug a bit loosely but it usually stays stuck in place while working up a lather with the brush. It makes a good lather and I get a smooth shave. All in all a good product, and the price is right. The Bay Rum fragrance is nice but none too pronounced while shaving.
Old time Tonsorial methods July 10, 2010 MR. H Col. Conk's world famous shaving soap. Very satisfied with this product but a bit disappointed that the Bay Rum fragrance was a bit on the timid side. Highly superior to the Williams brand that I had been using.
Smooth Shave July 3, 2010 goraidh (Maine) A very good shave every time. This soap lathers well and leave the face smooth. Smells excellent also.
Quite alright soap June 28, 2010 AD 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is an okay soap for the price. Convenient size smell is not over powering and lathers fine. There are better soaps out there and I would use something better but this is not bad.
